DX25MP 25th Anniversary of Major Eruption of Mt. Pinatubo DXpedition

The eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, Philippines in 1991 was the second largest volcanic eruption in the 20th century.  Mt. Pinatubo spewed out ashes and pyroclastic materials from June 7 until a few days after the major eruption on June 15. The landfall of Typhoon Yunya (local name Diding) in the Pinatubo area aggravated the devastation as the weight of the rain-saturated ash, earthquake shaking and strong winds caused numerous roofs to collapse including some building in two U.S. military facilities in the Philippines: Clark Air Force and Subic Naval Bases. Continuing lahar flows and diseases that broke out in the evacuation camps contributed to the increase of death toll to 847 people. There are many stories of grief, survival and heroism that were told related to this catastrophe. The effects of the eruption were not limited to the area around the volcano. It also affected the weather around the globe due to the injection of ash clouds in the global wind system in the stratosphere which caused maximum global cooling of about 1.5 degrees centigrade and more brilliant sun-rays.  After 25 years, on June 10-12, 2016, the atmosphere will be disturbed again, but this time with HF transmission coming from DX25MP DX Team on site let by DX1HAM. The team will exchange QSOs with hams worldwide to commemorate the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo and to remember the people whose lives were lost in the tragic event to rekindle the heroic acts of people who saved other people’s lives unconditionally, and to remind the survivors to be ever thankful to the Creator for sparing their lives. The ham radio community is dedicating this special day to you. 73 and see you all on air!
